(129) Engineering Metal-Organic Framework-biopolymer-based Hydrogels for Controlled Therapeutic Delivery
Introduction: Hydrogels possess tunable properties and enable spatial and temporal control over therapeutic release kinetics. Yet, major limitations include low mechanical strength, poor physical and thermal stability, limited swelling capacity, and controlled therapeutic release. To address these limitations, we developed a library of innovative metal-organic framework (MOF)-biopolymer-based hydrogels, formulated to exert fine control over multiple features to obtain desirable therapeutic release kinetics.
Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate how to modulate interactions to create MOF-hydrogels of tuned therapeutic release rates.
Apply the design strategy to balance the trade-off between hydrogel swelling and strength.
