Bioengineering (Focus Group – BE)
Large bone defects represent a significant clinical challenge by causing extended healing times (1), diminished functionality (2), and elevated complication risks (3). Multifunctional biomaterials that combine bone regeneration, controlled bioresorption, and localized drug delivery offer a promising solution. These innovative materials not only support effective bone repair but also address secondary issues such as infection control, diabetic bone healing, and targeted chemotherapy for bone tumors, ultimately improving patient outcomes. This approach could revolutionize bone repair.
