(253) A manufacturing method of semaglutide-loaded PLGA microspheres using microfluidics
Introduction: Recently, the market for GLP-1 receptor agonists has been growing rapidly due to their application in diabetes and obesity. Among the GLP-1 receptor agonists, we attempted to manufacture semaglutide-loaded microspheres using microfluidics. Because semaglutide can be aggregated at physiological pH[1], prevention of semaglutide aggregation during the microsphere manufacturing process is necessarily required for sustained release of semaglutide. If semaglutide aggregation occurs during manufacturing, the semaglutide can not be completely released from the PLGA microspheres after the injection.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the manufacturing process for semaglutide-loaded microspheres.
Explain the method for the prevention of semaglutide aggregation in microspheres.
Evaluate the drug release profile and pharmacokinetic profile of semaglutide-loaded microspheres.
