(380) Synthesis and non-covalent interaction investigation of metformin-conjugated poly(methyl acrylate)
Introduction: Poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA) has good mechanical properties but is highly hydrophobic, limiting its use in aqueous environments. To address this, we introduced metformin, an antidiabetic drug, into the PMA structure by modifying its methyl ester side chain. This enhanced hydrophilicity, making PMA amphiphilic. NMR spectroscopy confirmed chemical modification, with ¹H and ¹³C NMR showing characteristic shifts and HSQC verifying structural changes. This metformin-functionalized PMA may offer drug encapsulation and therapeutic potential, making it a promising material for drug delivery.
