Nanomedicine and Nanoscale Delivery (Focus Group - NND)
Chemotherapy is widely used to treat aggressive cancers, and as it is not specific to cancer cells, 95% of the dose administered is either eliminated or kills healthy cells. Encapsulation of drugs that are more sensitive is becoming more prominent, as with DOXIL lipid nanoparticles. However, despite protection against early elimination of the drug, delivery is not tissue-specific. Our aim is to develop nanovectors that deliver locally by pulsed laser radiation. For that, we modulate the sedimentation of gold on the surface of liposomes with encapsulated doxorubicin (DOX) making them plasmonic.
