(428) Fenofibrate Eyedrop: A Novel Therapeutic Approach for Mustard Gas-Induced Corneal Injuries
Introduction: Fenofibrate, a PPARα agonist, has been clinically used for dyslipidemia for over 30 years [1]. PPARα regulates lipid metabolism, mitochondrial function, and inflammation, mitigating oxidation, inflammation, and angiogenesis. It is highly expressed in the cornea [2]. Nitrogen mustard (NM), a chemical warfare agent, causes severe corneal injuries, including inflammation, ulceration, and neovascularization [3]. With no effective treatments available, this study validates PPARα as a target for NM-induced corneal injury and evaluates fenofibrate microemulsion (Feno ME) eyedrops.
Learning Objectives:
Evaluating PPARα agonists' effectiveness in treating mustard gas-induced corneal injuries.
Validating PPARα as a molecular target for treating vesicant-induced corneal injuries.
