(471-A) Impact of HPMC and formulation parameters on the dissolution profiles of modified release tablets
Introduction: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) has been widely used to control the rate of drug release in modified release tablets (MRTs), however the exact mechanisms impacting the dissolution profile and the extent of delayed release are not fully understood. In this study, a developmental drug with a projected short half-life was formulated into extended-release tablets with HPMC polymer. The impact of varying the HPMC viscosity, percentage of HPMC, as well as manufacturing parameters on drug release was evaluated.
Learning Objectives:
understand impact of HPMC viscosity, HPMC level and manufacturing parameters on drug release
