(488) Development of a Novel Dry Powder Inhaler for Semaglutide: Freeze-Drying Micronization and PK study
Introduction: This study explores the development of a dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulation for semaglutide, to address challenges associated with current delivery methods. Oral dosage form of semaglutide suffers from low bioavailability(BA) and high manufacturing costs and subcutaneous injections decrease patient compliance due to needle-associated problem. Pulmonary peptide delivery offers a non-invasive alternative with rapid absorption, high BA, and improved stability. This study focused on optimizing a DPI for drug delivery utilizing micronization achieved via lyophilization and combination of sugars.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to develop dry powder inhaler formulations for semaglutide
Upon completion, participant will be able to utilize lyophilization for micronization of drug
Upon completion, participant will be able to design combination of sugars for DPI formulation
