(494) Developing Long-Term Drug Delivery Systems Using Polyethylene Vinyl Acetate and Loratadine
Introduction: The only drug delivery routes on the market for the antihistamine Loratadine (i.e., Claritin) are oral tablets and syrups [1], with a bioavailability of ~40% [2]. The purpose of this study is to develop a drug delivery system that creates a more consistent and prolonged release when compared to its current oral counterparts.
Learning Objectives:
... describe how pressure processing affects the rate of release of polymer/drug delivery systems.
...understand that pressure processing may have a major morphological effect on the polymer or drug.
