Skin and Mucosal Delivery (Focus Group - SMD)
Hollow microneedles ( < 2mm) facilitate minimally invasive intradermal drug delivery by piercing the stratum corneum, enabling precise and efficient transcutaneous transport of liquid therapeutic. In this study, an in-silico model of HMN is developed to simulate insertion & subsequent delivery of therapeutic drug into skin. The combined effects of fluid flow through the skin, incorporating the localised stress induced by needle insertion and the deformation caused by fluid infiltration, were captured using a poro-hyperelastic framework.
