This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the current landscape and future potential of additive manufacturing (3D printing) in pharmaceutical applications. Beginning with foundational definitions and process categories, the talk highlights why 3D printing is a transformative technology across industries, with a focus on its impact in the pharmaceutical sector.
Dr. Liu explores major 3D printing methods being adapted for drug development, including Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Binder Jetting, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Semi-Solid Extrusion (SSE), SPID® Screen Printing, and MED® Melt Extrusion Deposition technologies. Each method is evaluated based on its technical configuration, advantages, limitations, and suitability for drug formulation and manufacturing.
