Hemi-porous Janus microparticles as a muco-adhesive enteral delivery system for BCS Class III drugs
Wednesday, July 16, 2025
2:29 PM – 2:54 PM EDT
Introduction: Drugs of biological therapeutics are classified as Class III in the biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS), which often requires functional additives to improve intestinal absorption. We have designed novel “hemi-porous Janus microparticles” by juxtaposing rigid and porous hemispheres [1]. We previously reported that hemi-porous Janus microparticles promoted the intestinal absorption of macromolecules in the rat small intestine [2] (Figure 1). In the present study, we investigated the effect of hemi-porous Janus microparticles on the intestinal absorption by improving adhesivity.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will know
Participants will be able to understand the key points for BCS Class III drug oral delivery.
Participants will be able to understand the dilution as a barrier for Class III drug oral delivery.
Participants will be able to understand the possibility of common ingredients to build a new system.
