Nanomedicine and Nanoscale Delivery
Cardiac arrest (CA) is the sudden stop of blood flow due to an impaired contractility of the heart. The use of adrenaline during cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an established procedure, but its safety has been questioned by recent clinical trials. Adrenaline increases the chances of return of spontaneous circulation, but it also increases the incidence of neurological impairment in CA survivors. The need for repeated injections due to the quick metabolism of adrenaline, with the consequent oscillation in plasmatic concentration, was suggested as a possible cause of the neurological damage.
