Dr Joseph (Joey) O'Shea is a Lecturer in Pharmaceutics at University College Cork, Ireland. He previously worked in the pharmaceutical industry in roles spanning formulation science, clinical and regulatory affairs, and technical operations. Since returning to academia in 2019, his research has focused on improving oral drug delivery—particularly for poorly soluble drugs, peptides, and nucleic acids—through predictive in vitro, in vivo and in silico methods. He leads projects on advanced formulation technologies and biopharmaceutic assessment, with collaborations including the GENEGUT and COLOTAN networks, aiming to enhance the translation of preclinical research into effective, patient-centred therapies.
