Dr. Higuita-Castro is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Neurosurgery at The Ohio State University and Director of Advanced Therapeutics & Engineering at the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute. Her research integrates extracellular vesicles (EVs), gene and cell therapies, and nanomedicine to create next-generation therapeutics. Her lab has pioneered engineered EVs (EEVs) as targeted nanocarriers for molecular and gene delivery. Using accessible sources like skin cells, her team develops scalable, biocompatible systems to treat regenerative and inflammatory diseases. This innovative work has resulted in high-impact publications and multiple licensed patents, highlighting the broad therapeutic potential of EEVs.
