Dr. James Byrne is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Radiation Oncology at the University of Iowa, where he began his faculty appointment in 2021. He earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, his M.D. and Ph.D. from UNC, and completed residency training in Radiation Oncology through the Harvard Radiation Oncology Program, followed by postdoctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on developing translational biomaterials and devices to enhance cancer therapy, immunomodulation, and gastrointestinal health.
