Vladimir Muzykantov, MD/PhD, PENN Founders Professor of Nanoparticle Research, Professor of Pharmacology in the Perelman School of Medicine, pioneered targeting of diverse agents to the pulmonary vasculature, to the BBB and the heart. He discovered the pathway for internalization via "non-internalizable" receptors, defined factors modulating diverse delivery systems - shape, size, density and affinity of ligands, target cell phenotype, hemodynamics and accessibility. He also pioneered the paradigm-shifting approach for vascular delivery by RBC. Muzykantov published ~300 papers in Cell, Science, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Nano, Nature Communications, PNAS and other journals (h-index 85).
