Kabanov, Distinguished Professor and director of the Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Graduated from Moscow State University in 1984, where also received Ph.D. in 1987 and D.Sc. in 1990. Made broad impact to nanomedicine by introducing polymeric micelles, polyelectrolyte complexes, nanogels and exosomes for the therapeutic delivery of small drugs, nucleic acids, and proteins. Work led to first polymeric micelle drug to enter clinical trials. Published >350 scientific papers (~45,000 citations, h-index 107), holds 37 US patents and co-founded several companies. Trained >70 graduate students and postdocs half of whom are women and underrepresented minorities. Founded Nanomedicine and Drug Delivery symposium series (www.nanodds.org), chaired Gordon Research Conferences. Honors include Lenin Komsomol Prize, NSF Career and George Gamow awards. Elected member or fellow of Academia Europaea, RAS, AAAS, AIMBE, CRS, and National Academy of Inventors. CEO and Past President of RASA and director-at-large, CRS.
