Tech Session I: Artificial Intelligence and Predictive Models
Multiphysics modeling towards a digital twin platform for drug-loaded polyester-based implants
Tuesday, July 15, 2025
11:16 AM – 11:27 AM EDT
Introduction: The experimental design of drug-loaded long-acting implants to achieve a target pharmacokinetic release profile is timely and costly due to the lack of a theoretical understanding of the underlying physio-chemical mechanisms. In efforts to address these challenges, we propose a multiphysics model that mimics the dynamics of a polyester-based implant loaded with an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) in an aqueous medium, thereby paving the way for the substantial reduction of design loops for a desirable release profile.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will know
Understand the various physical mechanisms at play in the complex dynamics of a drug-loaded implant.
Correlation of experimental release data with the predicted release profile of Multiphysics models.
