Glucose Dendrimer-Cannabidiol Conjugates :Safe and Effective Treatment of Pain and Epilepsy

Introduction:

Cannabidiol (CBD) was approved by the FDA for severe epilepsy treatment. However, safety studies have linked CBD to adverse events. Dendrimer-enabled, cell-targeted CBD delivery may improve efficacy and reduce off-target effects, including drug-drug interactions. Novel glucose dendrimer (GD) system targets neuronal cells, and we hypothesized that CBD conjugated to GD could provide effective seizure treatment at a lower dose without side effects. To test this, we synthesized a GD-CBD conjugate and evaluated its safety and efficacy in rat (pain) and mouse models (status epilepticus (SE).
