Delivery to the Nervous System
Delivering nanoparticles to the nervous system holds great promise for treating neurological disorders. However, effective transport is hindered by the blood-brain and blood-nerve barriers. Traditional delivery methods often fail to reach neurons efficiently. Axonal transport presents a unique pathway for intraneuronal delivery of therapeutic agents, including drugs and genetic material. This study investigates the uptake and transport of topically applied nanoparticles into sensory neurons, focusing on strategies to enhance their entry into high-curvature systems like axons.
