Stem Cells in Mitochondrial Transfer: A Potential Strategy for Pulmonary Fibrosis Intervention
Wednesday, July 16, 2025
11:49 AM – 12:00 PM EDT
Introduction: Pulmonary fibrosis (PF), a kind of serious lung diseases, is closely associated with the disruption of mitochondrial homeostasis in lungĀ epithelial cells [1]. Herein, we developed a novel strategy by using mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) as a living carrier of mitochondria. We showed that MSC possess the advantages of transferring their own mitochondria selectively to the impaired cells, enabling a precise delivery of healthy mitochondria to the diseased cells. Consequently, showing a prominent intervention of advanced PF.
Learning Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, participants will know
Investigate a novel delivery strategy of targeted mitochondrial delivery by using stem cells.
Investigate pulmonary fibrosis intervention by the restoration of mitochondrial homeostasis.
