Most solid tumors and their metastatic counterparts respond poorly to advanced cancer therapies, including immunotherapies. This limited response is largely due to a suppressed immune microenvironment, which hampers therapeutic efficacy in the clinic. Nanomedicine-based approaches offer promising solutions by enabling the delivery of therapeutic agents that can re-activate the immune system to target and eliminate cancer cells. This talk will highlight key nanotherapeutic strategies aimed at targeting and modulating innate immune cells within the tumor microenvironment. It will cover novel delivery systems for therapeutic cytokines as well as strategies to reprogram tumor-associated macrophages in both primary tumors and metastatic sites, supported by validation in preclinical models.
