(492) Antimicrobial Chitosan-PVA Cryogels with Tailored Nanosilver for Treating Infected Wounds
Introduction: Chronic wounds, particularly prevalent among diabetic patients, pose significant clinical challenges due to their susceptibility to infections and impaired healing processes.1 Current treatments are often inadequate, leading to prolonged healing times and increased healthcare costs.2 This study aims to develop an antimicrobial wound dressing with antimicrobial activity to address current clinical limitations and improve patient outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the engineering of flame-sprayed nanosilver particles and their incorporation in cryogels
Evaluate antimicrobial efficacy and biocompatibility in vitro and ex vivo on porcine and human skin.
Analyze mechanical properties (porosity, shape recovery), Ag+ ion release, and clinical translation.
